As our vines slowly turn to autumn colors, our primeur wines are already drawn and almost ready to be tasted. At the Deprade Jorda winery, we’ve been proud to perpetuate this tradition for over 20 years, which highlights the hard work of a team during more than a month of harvesting. The release of the primeur wine, also known as “vin nouveau”, marks the end of a cycle, with the arrival of the “newborn”, a moment eagerly awaited by wine lovers and connoisseurs alike. This is the first wine of the year, bottled just a few weeks after the harvest and after only a few days of maceration. This young, fruity wine is a pure reflection of the harvest, a first glimpse of the vintage’s promise.
A vin primeur is a wine that goes on sale shortly after the harvest, as early as the third Thursday in October. It is bottled very soon after vinification. At the Deprade Jorda winery, we follow this tradition with fervor, scrupulously respecting traditional winemaking methods while applying our specific know-how to capture the essence of each vintage.
Selecting the right plot and grape variety is the key to making a unique Vin Nouveau. The grapes are harvested when fully ripe, in whole bunches, for a short carbonic maceration of 4 to 5 days. Fermentation is rapid, preserving the fruity aromas and floral notes characteristic of primeur wines. The result is a fresh, light, highly aromatic wine that can be enjoyed young, unlike wines destined for aging. At Deprade Jorda winery, it is often available in white and rosé.
