A MOMENT OF PASSION AND TRADITION
Every year, the Deprade Jorda winery comes alive with a special effervescence. The harvest marks the culmination of a year’s painstaking work in the vineyards.
In September 2024, our teams and volunteers are mobilized to harvest the fruit of a year marked by variable weather conditions over the last few years.
A promising year
This year’s harvest is particularly promising. After a generously sunny spring, a little rain and a summer with balanced temperatures, our grape varieties have reached a perfect level of ripeness. The berries are bursting with sugar and aromas, a sign of exceptional aromatic potential for our future wines.
From now on, the team will be busy in the cellar for many weeks and months, working on the vinification…
Tradition and modernity
At Deprade Jorda winery, harvesting is a balance between tradition and modernity. Harvesting by hand remains our preferred method for the oldest plots and delicate grape varieties, guaranteeing berry quality and preserving the grape’s aromas.
However, for many larger plots where the specific grape varieties allow, we also use the harvesting machine. This modern technology offers speed and efficiency, particularly in large plots where timing is crucial to preserve the freshness of the grapes. This option also enables us to harvest at night, which is essential to avoid oxidation of the juice.
By combining these two methods, we ensure a high-quality harvest while respecting the terroir and characteristics of each grape variety.

The art of winemaking
When the grapes arrive at the Deprade Jorda winery, a delicate and precise process begins. The bunches, carefully transported to avoid crushing, are immediately sorted to remove impurities and select the best fruit. Then, depending on the type of wine desired, the grapes may be destemmed or left whole. The maceration phase then begins, allowing the skins to release their aromas, colors and tannins. For certain grape varieties, we use specific winemaking techniques, such as carbonic maceration or barrel fermentation. Each stage is carefully monitored, as it is here that the potential of the vintage is revealed, and the unique character of our wines takes shape.

A shared experience

Harvesting is also a time for sharing and conviviality. At Deprade Jorda winery, we take schools from neighboring villages on a guided tour of the winery during the month of harvest.
